The Power of social networking:
Progressive Secretary makes contacting your representatives easy. Protest.net makes it a little easier to find (and organize) a protest in your neighborhood.
Save gas by sharing a ride: Hitchhikers.org is a European rideshare network. It's a great idea. Other sites can be found here and here.
Global Warming News
This might be the biggest global warming news so far, folks: the Arctic sea ice is melting faster and faster, affecting ocean currents, wind patterns, and even the ozone layer. Coby at A Few Things Ill Considered has a list of links about the trend.
Like maple syrup? Global warming might mean less of it.
What about wine?
Aspen trees are dying in the west - related to global warming?
The global warming denial industry wants you to believe that it will be incredibly expensive to stop global warming. Not so!
Solving global warming can help the economy, says a new study (full pdf file here) that was sponsored by an oil company.
Another proposal to reduce CO2. This one will phase out nuclear energy too. Article here, pdf here.
Another set of possibilities: Stabilization wedges proposed by Dr. Paul Socolow, pdf here, html version here.
Given the high cost and questionable return on investment (see also here) of the war in Iraq, I don't see why we shouldn't apply the 1% doctrine to global warming and the environment.
Other News
Orwellian economic news, Bush style.
Not really Orwellian, just plain blatant B.S. from the Bush.
Where's the toxic waste in your town? This site is slightly annoying but educational: toxic town, requires flash and javascript enabled. They provide a nice list of resources here.
What would happen if humans disappeared? Picture here, article here.

web 2.0 site for road trips - Ridster.com. It's the first road trip marketplace so drivers can easily sell empty passenger space to riders willing to pay for it. Simple concept, but Ridster.com is the first to make it a functional reality.
I'm afraid to read the new book by Cormac McCarthy, http://www.amazon.com/Road-Cormac-Mccarthy/dp/0307265439/sr=8-1/qid=1161134442/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-6378500-6666369?ie=UTF8 but it is set in a time in which humans, and every other life on the planet, have been just about annihilated. Humans are surviving by eating... each other, because all food plants and animals have died. It sounds like a sobering study in where I don't think we will, but we certainly could, end up, as well as a stunning philosophical exploration of death. Rave reviews. Scares me bad.

PS/Is this ridster guy a friend of yours? If not, what an a-hole. If yes, sorry I called him an a-hole.
