Complex Systems, Ecology, Collapse

I'm still trying to absorb Donella Meadows' Leverage Points.
In the meantime, I've been enjoying the seminars offered by the Long Now Foundation, especially a talk given by Jared Diamond, author of Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed. Recordings of the seminars are available for free. It's a great resource, offered by a fascinating bunch of people.
Another interesting read is a paper by Joseph Tainter, Complexity, Problem Solving, and Sustainable Societies.
This paper was, for me, an easier read than Meadows' paper, and the core idea fits in well with my worldview. The trend towards rigid management in my political map is a reaction to increasing complexity in society, among other things.

So little time ... so many commitments ...
I look forward to reading what you glean out of these, as I am trying to (slowly) burn through my already-purchased reading ... were I single+childless I would take up more of your suggestions, though ...
Well, you rock for all your comments so far. I've got the week off, so I've been doing much more than normal.
Thanks :).
Of course I am here because I simply couldn't resist your good stuff anymore. I am relieved that it won't be so hard to keep up with it in the future ;) ... hope your vacation has been great :)!
