I will be posting less frequently over the next month. Things should pick up again after a few weeks... until then, you can sign up for email updates, or grab the RSS feed over in the sidebar. (If you have Firefox, a live bookmark is just a few clicks away...)
I'm moving out of the city center to a suburban area. I'd thought that living downtown would be more convenient and environmentally friendly, but the place I'm moving to has a bunch more businesses nearby, it's a greener space, and I don't feel like I have to size up every one who approaches me on the street. The unpleasant possibility of dealing with the mentally ill usually keeps me from walking to the businesses near my current home now that I have an infant son who goes wherever I go.
So in other words, despite my lifelong distrust of the suburbs, I am looking forward to this move. I'll even have space for a garden, something I've missed sorely for the past couple years living in the big city.
That's all for now. I've got some packing to do.

- I'm adding a new blog to my blogroll, Perceiving Wholes. The blogger is a student of ecology and all around interesting person - check it out. She has an interesting post on overfishing and the corresponding rise in jellyfish populations in the Atlantic.
- Greenhouse gases aren't the only thing affecting the climate:
- University of New Hampshire scientists report on the effects of 300 years of land use changes.
- Illegal logging is a contributing factor to drought in the Amazon.
- While global warming can cause droughts, droughts might also contribute to global warming.
- Some species struggle with habitat destruction: pronghorn antelopes are likely to vanish from Yellowstone and other National Parks because they can no longer follow their annual migration.
- Other species thrive: watch this video of starlings for graphic evidence.
- I've been following another blog about alternative fuels. For a skeptical view of Ethanol, check out R-Squared.
That's all for now. I've got some packing to do.
