Joe G's Intelligent Sophistry

A few more observations about Joe G are on Jim Wynne's blog.
I'm still interested - what makes his brain go? He told me on his blog that he wasn't a Christian, but apparently he's been posting on other sites under different names - with each different name a different religion! Hmm. Now things become clear.
If he is Christian, I can understand why he would stick with his pet theory of ID, despite all evidence. Faith can make a man do strange things - even tell lies.
Perhaps his bad manners and intellectual dishonesty will work against the ID movement. I for one am not sure if debating him is worth it, given his penchant for name calling and intellectual backflips.
But it is kind of fun, so I'll probably go back sometime.

Those are good reasons to answer him, but also good reasons to not engage in extended debate. The reason for answering him is not to try change his mind; he's way too far gone for that. The reason is to provoke him into exposing the lameness of his thinking on his own. Rank-and-file creationists just aren't able to think clearly (if they could, they wouldn't be creationists)and if you get them to talk enough, they're bound to meet themselves coming back in the opposite direction. Thoughtful people who aren't familiar with the "controversy" can learn a lot by reading/listening to IDiots who inevitably paint themselves into corners.
Agreed. After a certain point, debating someone like Joe is pointless. It's time to move on, find bigger fish.
