You're Doing a Great Job, Rummy

Digg it! | add to Technorati | Post to Del.icio.us | Furl it | Spurl it
I found a new blog, Gun Toting Liberal. GTL has commentary on Don Rumsfeld's realization that there is an electronic battlefield (the Zapatistas figured this out 12 years ago).

Rummy is also concerned that the US is losing the battle for Arab hearts and minds.

I could have told him that when the second intifada began.

How do I apply for his job?

I actually did a biography project in eighth grade on Donald Rumsfeld. Great man.

If "great man" means he will do whatever is necessary to maintain US global political and economic dominance, including working with Saddam Hussein, then you are correct. I question his ethics myself. Wikipedia has a fairly complete and reasonably unbiased biography of Rumsfeld.

If we have been in fact mistreating prisoners in Guantanamo and Al Ghraib, and it is clear we have been, someone higher up must be condoning it. That would be Rumsfeld and ultimately his boss. That neither has condemned the mistreatment as despicable and unworthy of our country says a lot about Rummy's ethics.

If we are losing ground in the media war, we might look to our own behavior. Muslims hardly need to manufacture news that favors their side.

I read the Wikipedia biography, and it is full of bias, but informative. It is generally not a reliable source of information as it contains posts written by any know it alls who want to write about something, often with political motives. Looking at the facts, I think you could find some faults, but nothing indicating that he is incompetent or impure in motives. He has never settled for the status quo...in a way, he is a great beurocrat, but also a great leader in his field. He has made great contributions to our military.

It is not clear that higher ups are condoning prisoner abuse, in fact that is doubtful. Further Secretary Rumsfeld would have no concievable reason to support such people, as he has had relatively little prior military connection.

If you don't believe the DOD could allow torture, check out this post on Daily Kos.

I read the UN report on Guantanamo bay and will be posting on it soon.
