Greens - Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is!

I just joined the Green Web Ring, specifically for websites that promote the Green Party and its core values. Right after joining, I checked my email and found a message from Pat LaMarche.
Pat is running for Governor of Maine. I had the chance to meet her when she and David Cobb were campaigning during the 2004 presidential election. They were the Green candidates.
One of many special things about Pat was her insistence on staying at homeless and women's shelters during that trip. Talk about bringing the message to the people!
I found Pat to have an excellent grasp of the real problems facing poor and working people in this country. She has worked extensively to bring Maine a health care system that works, and she ran for Governor of Maine in 1998. Visit her site to learn more. I'm going to post the fundraising appeal I received below exactly as I received it.
Remember - any amount helps!
Greetings from the LaMarche for Governor Campaign in Maine!
I'll keep this message short and simple: we need your support! No frills, no fancy emails. We need gas for the cars going door to door in rural areas, to get to all of the county caucuses, and to make copies of campaign literature.
Please direct your browser to www.Pat2006.com and donate with your major credit/debit card today. Our secure server is practically begging for you to say, "hello, I'm here to hang out for 45 seconds to keep you company.
The most you can give is $100. A contribution of any size will go to work the moment it is received to assist in our signature collection effort to get Pat on the ballot and to qualify her for Clean Election funding. Once you decide to donate $100, all you have to do is sit back and watch us win, no more emails or phone calls asking for more money.
You see, Pat LaMarche is running as a Green Independent Party (we Mainers gave our Green Party a non-standard name) candidate for Governor and as a Clean Elections Candidate.
As a Clean Elections candidate Pat has agreed to limit her fundraising capabilities to an amount not to exceed $50,000, in maximum $100 contributions. No person can give more than $100. Once Pat meets all the necessary qualifications her campaign could receive up to nearly $2 million in public funding to run her campaign.
Simply put, Pat can win this race with your support. As you may know, Pat ran for Governor of Maine in 1998, and took 8% of the vote on a shoe string budget. With public funding she will be on a nearly equal footing as the duopoly candidates (fyi- the incumbant Democrat is not very popular these days). This is one of the best investments you can make in the 2006 election cycle, please give now before your chance to be a part of history passes you by. A lot of volunteers on the ground working for Pat, collecting signatures in the dead of winter, will be very greatful for your support.
Sincerely,
David Palmer

PS: if you have already donated to the campaign, please
consider forwarding this letter to someone you know who
might consider coming on board too. Also, if you harbor ill-
will towards me for sending you this message, please let me
know and I'll get you off any lists I'm using for the campaign.
You made this list because you were a supporter of the
2004 Cobb/LaMarche campaign for President.

Thanks for posting this!
I just found her website and even though I don't live in MA I find this info very relevant & encouraging to our democracy. Wow, someone willing to overnight in shelters... who is also running for political office!
Public service might just have a chance in politics again.
Good for you and enjoy green bloggers.
Over here, UK, Greens are quite mainstream...we have 7 members of parliament in Scotland, some Euro MPs. councillors and the Conservative Party (our version of Bush) are trying to be us!
I think after the Chinese Green Party, the Saudi Green Party, you US greens are most in our thoughts.
oh check out Joel Kovel's book 'The enemy of nature'
